Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in their last five league matches (W2, D3) whereas Arsenal have won twice, drawn once and lost twice. Spurs salvaged a point in a controversial and thrilling match with Liverpool last weekend at Anfield, while Arsenal thumped Everton 5-1 at the Emirates. The Gunners’ away form is very poor heading into this game at Wembley. However, form tends to go out the window in derbies such as this one.
Spurs have no new injuries ahead of the North London Derby leaving manager Mauricio Pochettino with quite the selection headache. Lucas Moura, signed from PSG on Transfer Deadline Day for £23m, could make his debut against the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger will make a late call on Friday about goalkeeper Petr Cech’s fitness for the derby. Cech went off with a calf injury during the win against Everton last weekend. Wenger will not risk Cech if he isn’t 100% fit and has full confidence in back up keeper David Ospina. Danny Welbeck could return to the squad and Nacho Monreal has recovered from illness.
Bragging rights are always important in the North London Derby. The three points at stake on Saturday could have huge implications on the race for the top four. My prediction is Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Arsenal.
